Stardew Valley is a massive effort by sole creator ConcernedApe. Players can farm, fish and make friends as much as they want.
In the relaxing atmosphere, there are several requirements and fetch quests that may need items that some players overlooked due to their inappropriate spawn rates or seasonal appearances. This guide will focus on the elusive Snow Yam – what it is, how to find it, and what players can do with it in Stardew Valley.
Stardew Valley: What Are Snowflakes?
The root vegetable in question is one of many edibles in Stardew Valley. Like others, it is seasonal and can only be found in winter – above ground. They also spawn in the icy levels of mines (level 40-69) where they can only be found using a hoe.

Fortunately, there are a few different ways to get one of those pesky bumps. Remember that the only way to find them on the ground is to use the hoe tool - bombs or any other tool will not work to reveal them.
Yam (jelly) The best way to get it is definitely to hoe Artifact Spots. Small wormspots appear even in winter and are the only place above ground that can reliably hold a Snow Yam. Artifact Points in the Desert can also contain Snow Yams.
Yams can be found by plowing soil outside of the farm area. Any arable land has a 4% chance to produce Snow Yam, but this only applies to town districts, not any land classified as farm. Crafting a Gold or Iridium Anchor can help with this as they can cover a larger area when charged.
Snow Yams can also be grown. If a player has a healthy supply of Winter Seeds, one of them Snow Settlement is likely to happen. This is the only time they will grow/lay eggs above ground. When the seeds are fully grown, they will be visible among other crops. Winter Seeds can be obtained (ironically) by completing the Winter Gathering Pack, or can be produced when foraging levels are increased.

- Used to complete/add the Winter Gathering Pack in the Community Center.
- It can be given to villagers as a gift.
- It is used to create shirts on the Sewing Machine.
- It can be requested randomly from the Help Wanted sign in Winter.
- In terms of gifting the Snowflake - there are a few characters who definitely want the cold vegetable. Linus, Leah and Harvey love the gift. But beware – Maru absolutely hates it. Most others will tolerate and accept it as a gift.
