Food and Ingredients

Instead of the Raspberry bushes you find along the meadows, Blueberries grow in the Black Forest. Likewise, instead of the Red Cap Mushrooms, the Black Forest is home to a more nutritious variety, the Yellow Mushrooms.

You can also discover Carrot Seeds scattered across the forest floor. These appear as flowers with three stems, each with clusters of white leaves. Pick some of these and bring them back to your base to plant in a field using the Cultivator and you'll soon be growing your own crops.

Thistle is the last ingredient you can find in the Black Forest. You can distinguish it more easily from other ordinary shrubs at night, when the tips of the branches turn a soft blue glow. The thistle plant is used in several different recipes and in the fermentation of mead.

Crafting Materials

The Black Forests are also full of crafting materials. This is where you will start mining Tin and Copper and also improve your lumberjack skill to get Core Wood by chopping Pine trees. Core Wood is used to craft a number of more advanced tools and building parts, such as a Cultivator, Gradual Crusher war hammer, Long Beams and Poles, Bonfires and Sharp Stakes.

As for metals, Tin Ore can be mined on the shorelines surrounding the Black Forest biomes, while Copper Ore is found further inland. Tin looks like some of the medium-sized rocks that line the beach, and Copper appears as chunks of shiny stone lining the forest floor. You'll need both of these metals and Surtling Core, which we'll discuss later, to get your blacksmith productions working.

trunks

Chests found in Black Forests give pretty much the same as those in Meadows biomes. So, inside you will find a stash of amber, Flinthead Arrows, coins and/or Feathers.

barrels

Barrels are a new container you won't encounter in Meadows. Barrels contain crafting materials and sometimes a light meal, rather than the treasure and tools you're likely to find inside Chests. Blueberries, Deer Hide, Leather Crumbs, Coal, Flint, Tin Ore, Resin, and once in a while, a Black Dwarf Eye can be looted from Barrels.

If you haven't discovered the use of Greydwarf Eyes yet, it's because they are used in more advanced crafting and upgrades than you can currently spend. A Greydwarf Eye is one of the components in the Frostproof Mead Base, along with the requirement to upgrade Copper Blades and build Portals or Guardians.

Valheim Black Forest Biome -Buildings and Formations

There are different buildings and formations to discover, as well as new resources to acquire. However, unlike the Meadows, these structures are usually inhabited.

Crypts (Burial Chambers)

While adventuring in one of these scary places, there is always a Torch Enter with , otherwise you won't see anything. Tunnels are networked in a vast maze and plenty of loot is scattered around, but undead threats often guard the loot.

These crypts are where you'll find the Surtling Core needed to power the Collie and Smelter. You can find these blocks affixed to upright bars in the Burial Chamber farthest from the Crypts. You will also encounter many riches such as Amber, Amber Pearls, Ruby and coins as you explore these depths. Additionally, the tunnel maze is a good area to search for Yellow Mushrooms and Bone Pieces. The Chests found in these ruins are likely to contain the same content as those mentioned above.

Of course, in rooms infested with the dead, these yields are not free to take. Ghosts and Skeletons will try to hinder your explorations and, if they can, drag you into the ranks of the undead.

Predictably, Ghosts are resistant to physical damage and are really only susceptible to Spirit damage. This is a bit of a mystery as there isn't any equipment for Spirit damage in the game yet. The Frostner warhammer does minimal Spirit damage, but you'll need to head out into the mountains to gather all the materials needed to craft it. Moreover, you also need to set up your smithery first, which is probably the reason why you went into the crypts in the first place. Skeletons are somewhat easier to ship as they are weak to fire and blunt force trauma.

In conclusion, stagbreaker warhammer will be your best option as it does not require metal to machine. Be quick to destroy Evil Bone Piles and Rancid Remains to completely eliminate threats.

You may be wondering what the coin is for, as there are no inhabited cities or any NPCs to see. However, there is an NPC, albeit difficult to find. Not many players have been able to find it without a specific world cheat.

The easiest way to find it is to enter a new world with the “42069lolxd” seed. It's not a joke. This is the seed of the world with the trader Haldor. After entering this world, Haldor can be found in a camp in the Black Forest biome, which requires some blind search.

Haldor sells many unique items, but in a world that lacks a strong currency system, they can be quite expensive. The main items to look out for are a Fishing Rod and bait for catching fish, Ymir Flesh to craft high-end gear, Megingjord to increase payload by 150, and Dverger Circlet to light up hands-free.
