How to play as Smoke in Rainbow Six Extraction – Skills and abilities

Smoke is another Rainbow Six favourite: Siege makes its triumphant return in archaea-filled landing zones. Smoke is always a safe bet, as its ability to deal sustained damage and keep enemies at bay is unlike any other in Rainbow Six: Extraction. With Remote Gas Grenades, Smoke can deal damage from anywhere and prevent arches from taking your team down. Be aware of where you throw them as you can hinder your team's movement and visibility.

The best guns for smoke

Weapon selection seems extra important when it comes to Smoke because of their interactions with his ability. Your first weapon will be the L85A2, a tried-and-true assault rifle with good mid to long range power. As you play and level up Smoke, you'll unlock access to the FMG-9 SMG, M590A1 SG and MP5K. Smoke is one of those operators you might consider using a shotgun in Extraction, as if you stun an enemy with your skill and knocking them down with the M590A1 will deal tons of damage.

Smoke is also equipped with two secondary equipment to choose from, the P225 Mk. 25 and SMG-11. While both these side guns are good choices, we recommend using the SMG-11 for a little extra power with you, especially if you plan on using a primary shotgun.

How to best use Smoke's Remote Gas Grenades?

Smoke's Remote Gas Grenade ability is one of the best area-denying abilities in the game. When you press the gadget button, you will take out the grenade and choose where to throw it. If you spot a large group of archaea or a boss, we recommend throwing one of three gas grenade charges at them, as they will deal 45 damage to all enemies in the cloud within six seconds. This gives you plenty of time to push the smoke and get the archaea out with your primary.

How to best play as Smoke

The Smoke is a two-speed two-armor operator, making it a perfectly balanced choice for anyone to pick up. As Smoke, your primary goal should be to act as a spacer for your team, clearing out large archaeal groups, and giving your teammates the opportunity to advance towards the goal. Gadget refill boxes can be hard to find, so you must be trying to use Remote Gas Grenades for groups or bosses.

Smoke needs to be played aggressively to be useful, so don't be afraid to blast your M590A1 shotgun at the target to fire a Remote Gas Grenade and clear out large archaeal communities. However, try not to put your team on hold and know when to get support and some help. With the right amount of aggression and team play, Smoke is the ultimate pick in the landing zone.
