Loop hero is a fantastically deep and addictive strategy card game recently released by developer Four Quarters and publisher Devolver Digital. The part-deck-builder, semi-auto battle game adds a healthy dose of strategy to keep players on their toes. The goal is for players to walk through loops, fight creatures, and lay cards until they come face-to-face with the world-destroying Lich.

Loop Hero's boss mechanic is also a bit different from many other RPGs. In the upper left corner of the screen is a small bar that slowly builds up as players navigate through the loop. When filled, the Lich will appear on the camp tiles and players can choose to return to the camp instead of fighting while keeping all the resources they find, or they can take the Lich and throw them all in glory.
To give themselves the best possible chance against the Lich, players can do a few different things. The Lich will spawn Palaces all over the camp tile when it spawns, so players can place buildings there as they walk through the loop, filling up squares and reducing the number of Palaces the Lich can spawn with. This will reduce the Lich's damage and health in battle and make the fight easier. Palaces can also be destroyed with Oblivion cards, so if players plan to acquire the Lich, they should definitely have this card in their deck.

It's also possible to speed up the Lich spawn rate by killing more enemies in the cycle, so placing as many enemy spawning cards as possible can be a good tactic. This has pros and cons as more enemies mean more drops, but it also increases the chance of encountering the Lich with lower health. Players who want to do this will need to stack their decks with many cards that cause enemies to appear in the loop. Players will also need to consider their build, which will be largely random and based on every blob they find in the loop. It's a good idea to focus on Evasion or Vampirism as Evasion will help them dodge incoming damage, while Vampirism will heal them based on the damage they've done.
Herbalist's Hut and the potions it provides are also a must-have for Lich fighting. As long as they build the Herbalist's Hut, players will receive two health potions each time they step on the camp tile, including when they step on the camp tile for Lich fight. That little extra healing can go a long way.
