Melee weapons live very short and sweet lives in Dying Light 2. It's hard to imagine a game that makes players fall in love with a weapon they know will shatter, but the developers at Techland have found a way to do that. And they're putting a system in the game that makes this love affair even more bitter.
However, improving weapons is not immediately obvious and much of the confusion arises as it is not immediately possible. It will take some patience and knowledge, but before long Dying Light 2 players will be tinkering with weapons to last as long as possible and inflict as much damage as possible.

Find or Buy a Socket Gun
Perhaps the biggest problem with learning to upgrade weapons is that weapons that can be upgraded are incredibly rare. Players will likely encounter Dead Island Easter eggs before they can get their hands on an upgradeable weapon.
For white, blue, or even purple guns that don't have a socket, go ahead and use them until they break without worrying about what might happen. The only time to worry about better technology is when a socket gun allows it.
Find or Buy Changes

And now it's time to bring the two together! The game is gentle enough to not require a crafting table, so this can be done anywhere. Go to the menu screen and hover over the weapon. At the bottom there will be a button to switch equipment (X/Triangle for controllers, C for keyboard users).
Different guns have different slots such as tips, shafts and handles. Each weapon may not have all three, and modifications may only go to the designated location. For example, a clutch mod cannot be thrown into a bit slot. Enjoy the improved weapon!
